Tops 7 Paintings of All Times

Painting is one of the most famous art forms. From time immemorial people have tried to carve out their feelings on canvas. Back in ancient times San people used caves as their canvas and drew paintings of men hunting animals with spears in their hands. With advent of renaissance period paintings became even more popular and painters like Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael etc. took this art to a new height. Paintings from famous artists are loved and revered all over the world. These famous artworks are often imitated by artists of modern times. Here is a list of most famous paintings which are most popular for art reproductions.

Mona Lisa 

This half length portrait of a woman with an enigmatic smile on her face has been the subject of curiosity and amazement for people. The painting was created by Leonardo da Vinci somewhere between 1503 and 1506. Right now the painting is at display in Musée du Louvre in Paris. This painting is the most visited, reproduced and written about artwork in the entire history of art.

The painting was created in 1890 by Dutch artist Van Gogh. The painting portrays Dr. Gachet who took care of Van Gogh in the last few months of his life. The painting shows Dr. Gachet sitting on a chair beside a table leaning his head over his right arm. The artwork was auctioned in 1990 at the highest ever paid price for any artwork at $82.5 million. Van Gogh cut his left ear to get inspiration for creativity.

Sunflowers 

In 1880s the Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh created two series of still life paintings. The first series depicts flowers lying on ground and was executed in 1887 and the second one was executed a year later in Arles. The second version shows a bouquet of sunflowers in a vase. At present the painting is at display in Tokyo at the Seiji Togo Yasuda Memorial Museum of Modern Art.

The starry night

Yet another master piece from post impressionist Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, this painting depicts a starry night as seen from the window of Van Gogh’s sanitarium room. Currently the painting is at display in New York at the famous Museum of Modern Arts.

The last supper 

Created somewhere between 1495 and 1498, this famous artwork was created by Leonardo da Vinci. The painting depicts Jesus Christ having supper with his 12 apostles. During the same supper Christ announces that one of his apostles would betray him.

Girl With a Pearl Earring 

The painting was created in 1665 by Johannes Vermeer. It is often termed as the Mona Lisa of the north. The painting depicts a woman wearing an earring. In fact the earring is the focus of this painting.

The Scream 

The painting was created by Edvard Munch in 1893. The painting portrays an extremely trembling and anxious person standing by the fence of a road.

These paintings have been the source of inspirations for budding painters, for art reproductions and connoisseurs. You can easily find reproductions of these famous paintings on the internet. While it is tough to have these original artworks, you can have these reproductions for you drawing room wall.

  1. Paintings are beautiful way to express your thoughts with your art work. My Papa used to be a painter but not with the pictures hehehe only in the wood :-) There are only two of the lists that I am familiar of...the Mona Lisa and Last Supper :-)

  3. Out of te 7 mentioned above, i have only seen 5 ;) i tried to teach myself to paint but i was not a good painter so i shift my talent to dancing. Parang ang layo? Lol

  4. I love paintings. We have paintings at home but none of them are like those. The only paintings I'm familiar with are Monalisa and the last supper, i never seen the others yet. i will check them online tonight.

  5. Seems like wherever we go and what generations may have passed, Mona Lisa would always be at the top of the list. I wish you posted each photos of that paintings too :)

  7. I am not familiar of the other 4 paintings being mentioned. I only knew of Monalisa, The Last Supper, and The Starry Night. The original of these paintings are really heavily guarded coz it costs a lot :-)

  10. i used to love to paint when i was in my high school days, we have art classes from elementary to HS. i love it coz i learned a lot of things like mixing colors and proper handling of the pencil and such and such...
    Vincent Van Gogh is one artist that i like. he painted so many paintings and became famous. The Starry Starry night is the most popular of all his work.
